Happy Fall Y’all

I seriously just typed y’all, I don’t even say that word.  Florida may be rubbing off on me afterall.  Anyway, Halloween is over and it’s time to plan for the next holiday aka Thanksgiving.  Can’t wait to stuff my face and hang with family, but in the meantime I figured I would throw some fall decorations up to get us pumped up for the upcoming festivities! First off I packed up all of the Halloween decorations, except a few pumpkins that will stay to help celebrate Thanksgiving.  Once I had everything packed away I headed out to the store to get some supplies for some decorations I was thinking about putting together.  I stopped at JoAnne Fabrics and Hobby Lobby and came home with this…

Yup, got a butt load of stuff.  Everything was on sale though, I’m not that crazy, I spent about $25 for everything here.  I got the branchy thing with yellow looking berries from Hobby Lobby for $3 and it ended up here…

To be honest this may hang out here year round.  I am really diggin the way that it helps fills out this little nook area.  Here’s a view from the other side…

I heart it.  I wasn’t finished there, oh no.  I still had a couple other quick crafty projects up my sleeve, oh yes.

I previously had this glass cylinder from Justin’s work Christmas party, believe it or not.  They always have nice little centerpieces and they let every couple take one home each year.  This guy was filled with pine cones and ornaments last year.  I have seen them at craft stores for around $5 though if you’re interested in picking one up.  I also grabbed a cylinder candle from Target, that was on clearance for $4.

Lastly, I picked up some beans. Yes, beans.

Navy beans in particular, never heard of them.  I just liked them because they were white.  You can probably see where I am going with this idea now…

I poured some of the beans in the glass cylinder and then plopped the candle right on top.  I shimmied it around until it was level and centered then poured in the remaining beans.

I really wanted to try to stick with a white/tan theme for Thanksgiving this year, so I went with the white navy beans.  You could also use split peas or kidney beans or even acorns.  Anything your heart desires I guess!  Here is where this one ended up…

On the TV console.  I had one last project in mind, here are my supplies…

See the wheat looking stuff?  I picked that up at Hobby Lobby for $3 also, the ribbon and mason jars I already owned.  I started by splitting up the wheat bunch into smaller pieces.  The bunch was held together by wire, so I had to use our wire cutters to do so.

I was left with this…

All of those little extended pieces are wire, I tossed this guy right in the trash.  Next I plopped a few of the bunches into a clear mason jar.

I thought this was looking pretty good, but I didn’t care for the way the bottom of the bunches looked unfinished in the clear jar.  I then grabbed a bag of white rice we had in our pantry and just poured some right into the jar…

Much better!

I also added a burlap bow on each…

Fancy, huh?  These two went to live on the mantle…

I also put a couple creamish colored frames and a few votive candles up there as well. This project cost me $3 total because I had everything on hand except the wheat bunch. If you had to purchase everything to replicate these I would say it would run you about $10. Not bad for a quick decoration project.

I also purchased a little fall pillow that ended up in the patio…

And I had to get one more pumpkin!

And you know I have fall napkins!

Lastly, I bought a crazy scarecrow guy that ended up on the kitchen ledge along with an acorn dish filled with candy.

Pumpkin Carving Kind of Weekend

Justin and I decided to carve our pumpkins this weekend, who am I kidding when else would we have done it?  Halloween is Thursday!  I picked up our pumpkins from Walmart a few weeks back for about $4 each…

I also picked up one of these from Michael’s for about $2 with a coupon…

Justin wanted to do a Sabres pumpkin and googled the patterns, but they were being sold online for about $20 and we thought ya right!  I can’t believe people would pay $20 to print off a pumpkin carving pattern, I guess different strokes for different folks.  Anyway, we decided to just go with one of these snazzy patterns.  I chose the witch and Justin picked the headless horseman.

Charlie was very concerned with what we were up to…

And he also grazed on any pumpkin he could get his paws on…

Zack was kind of interested also…

Here is what our finished products look like…

Mines on the right.  Then I forced Justin to take a photo of me with my pumpkin and his with his own and this is what I got…

He just loves getting his picture taken.

Then this happened…

I also managed to make my very first homemade apple pie!  Look at me being all domestic and getting into the fall festivities.

Eat, Drink and Be Scary!

Happy Halloween folks, well almost.  I wanted to show you all how we celebrate aka decorate for Halloween around here.  I did my usual decorating for Halloween this year, but now I had a new house to decorate.  Here is how I did it…

I started with this cute little home sweet home sign.  I wasn’t sure where to put it, since it use to hang on a wall in out apartment I tried to find a good place to put it in our house, but I didn’t want to make any new holes just for a month or two.  So it ended up here…

I also broke out our spider web basket where our fruit resides for this holiday.  I think this is my favorite Halloween decoration.

Here is the other side of our counter, complete with a little scarecrow man on the shelf and a pumpkin filled with candy…

Next up I got out my Halloween napkins…

and also my pumpkin salt and pepper shakers….

Yup, I have those too!

Oh and if you’re wondering if I have a pumpkin soap dispenser. Well, you would be in luck…

For the front I just threw some gourds in a lantern and bought a couple pumpkins, that will eventually get carved.

It’s What I got

I said remember that!

Just giving you some sublime love, but what I really want to share with you is what I got on my trip to NY.

As you already know I headed to the Hilton Apple Fest while visiting home and I also stopped in to check out Willowcreek Antiques and Interiors.  And I just so happened to have scooped up a couple goodies.  Let’s start with the apple fest…

First up I’ll share something I gave you a peak of already….

That is not photo shopped people, this is real life.  Charlie Bean is just this cute.  One more…

Okay I’m done now, sorry.  In case you are wondering I purchased the bandana at the apple fest, I had the dog previously.  This guy was $5.95, so I think it was a steal.

Next up…

You’re probably wondering “what the heck is that?”  Well, it’s a lazy susan!

Justin makes fun of me because the table in our kitchen is a high top that is approximately 3-4 feet wide, making it pretty easy to reach anything on the table.  So this guy will most likely end up in the cupboard to help me reach spices that are in the wayyy back.  I’m really digging the different panels of stained wood. Susan was just $22 and was a gift from my mom for Christmas.  Thanks ma!

I also picked up one of these glass pumpkins…

I chose the green one on the right.  I think it’s time to get in the fall spirit! And why not with a crazy green glass pumpkin? Right? These were only $10 each.

I also got this little gem…

I love candy corn, whether it be the real thing or a little wooden painted one.  And for just $3 I was sold!

Now let me show you what I picked up at Willowcreek Antiques and Interiors…

First off I had to take one of these home…

I know you’re totally thinking I took that sick boat home, but I am talking about this…

Yup I was actually talking about the bottles to the right of the boat. I picked this specific one because…

It says Rochester, NY on it! My home! So I had to have it.  It now lives in my laundry room…

For now it will hang out in here and it may move from time to time, who knows.  I may even plop a single flower in it sometime. I know I’m living on the edge with these ideas!

Next up…

I loved these as soon as I saw them, so I bought two!  For just $15 each.

I really like the little Lyon brand tag on the front, reminds me of my locker from high school, I think those were Lyon brand too.  Am I right?

I knew exactly where they would go too…

On the shelves under my desk!  I threw extra drawing paper in the right basket and in the left some magazines…

And here is my art room now…

I need some art on those walls huh?  It will happen someday.  And see that little picture frame on my desk?  That’s another present from my mom…

I love everything about it!  So there you have it, all the stuff that came home with me.  Well, almost.  I do have a few things I cannot share because they are Christmas presents. Sorry, can’t spoil the surprise!
