Painting More Pots

Since I now had my new fancy rolling cart I was storing my sharpie markers in some terracotta pots that I just happened to have laying around….

I wasn’t diggin all of the random crazy colors going on in the room, so I figured painting these pots would tone things down a bit.  I seemed to be leaning towards more neutral/natural colors in this room so I decided to go with a dark green that would match my newly purchased trash can…

I got this guy at JoAnn Fabrics for $3 in their clearance section, plus I had a gift card.  No money outta my pocket!

So I dumped my markers out and wiped down the pots with a rag…

As you can see they are the usual rust color that you see on most terracotta pots.  I grabbed some green paints that I thought should make the color I was going for…

I got to mixing until I had a color that was comparable to the color on my trash can.  From there I just started painting…

o5

I didn’t paint the inside completely because I had a different plan for that part…

o9

I thought it would be fun to put a neon yellowish-green inside the pots.  So I mixed up another color and started painting the interior of the pots…

I was definitely loving the bright pop of color!  I then waited for the pots to dry then threw my sharpies back in…

Oooo la la! I love that the neon green sneaks through in between the markers.

While I was at it I grabbed a couple terracotta plates from the store to put under my plants that were currently living in my office.  They were much needed since when I watered them they leaked a bit on the desk.  They have been currently sitting with paper towel under them.  I decided it was time to fix the issue.  So while I had all of my paints out I just painted the plates to match the pots they would go under…

Yay! No more leaking.  Here is the office now…

I love you IKEA

I have been keeping my eyes peeled for a desk/art station for my office.  I have been checking craigslist and looking around online.  I knew I wanted something like this…

or this…

I love both of these drafting desks, I think it is pretty sweet that you can change the height of them or put them on an angle whenever you want.  Plus they are pretty cool looking, which is a bonus.

So this was my ideal desk, although I though that if I found an antique one that was solid wood(not painted) on craigslist I could go that way as well.  But, I headed to IKEAs website and found this

LINNMON/FINNVARD Table IKEA You can choose a flat or tilted table top, which is good for writing, painting or drawing, by adjusting the trestle.

Does that look familiar?  It is the exact desk in the second photo above! It is a Linnmon/Finnvard table in white/beech and at $85 I was sold, plus shipping it came to around $130 which is still not bad.  So I ordered that sucker and about a week later came home to this…

Wahoo! Just one week!

After a couple days of that huge box laying in our front room I decided I should assemble this thing.  So I hauled the box into the office and got to it.

Once I got everything out, I had a ton of pieces of wood and a booklet of instructions, all in pictures! Just my kind of instructions.  So basically I followed the pictures and tried to replicate what it looked like was going on in the 2D stick figure picture.

I am on the first photo here.

Next thing I knew I had one of the stands built.

Then I added the shelf…

Here is the top of the desk, which I had nothing to assemble since it is just one solid piece…

Once I had both stands built, I just popped the desk piece right on top of them, it stays in place because it has two small posts that stick out and insert into little holes on top of the legs. Make sense? Probably not, in other words when I tilt it upward the top of the desk will not fall in my lap.

Here she is all built…

See my desk’s friend?  I got that guy at Lowes. I saw it and had to have it…

Only $49, I think that is a steal for a standing lamp that isn’t a piece of crap.  Here he is standing with all of his friends at Lowes…

I love how the tri-podish legs of the lamp are similar to the legs of the desk…

So those are my new additions to my office/art room. What do you think?

Dumping Some Thoughts

I have been pondering about my next project I will tackle in our home.  I have been busy working, wedding planning(headache) and working on some art, so the home DIY stuff has kinda taken the back burner for the last couple weeks.  Although, my brain has been working over time on what I want to do with the 2nd guest room.  This room will be my art space/storage room/office, so I am pretty stoked for this one.  I have yet to start anything in this room, so I thought I would spill out some of my ideas and why not share with you right?

While I have been daydreaming about this room I have considered many colors that I may put on the walls.  I am thinking something like this…

Violet-Swatch-550x135

Probably more a or c, not so much d.

purple gray

Maybe something like this, colorwise, ignore the fact that this is a bedroom.

purple

Or something like this, obviously I realize this is a nursery, just check out the wall color. I want something purplish-grayish with maybe a little hint of pink, but super close to white. Make sense? Well, it does to me!

Here are some office desks that I am diggin…

office

I am in love with everything going on in this photo.  I am obsessed with this desk. I am also loving the stacked baskets.

This desk is calling my name.

I am also thinking I want to have some kind of gallery wall going on, maybe like this…

office4

or this…

office2

I love the different frames and the placement.

I also would like to have some shelving above my desk.  I am thinking this…

office5

I love these thin floating shelves in white!  I am also all about these shelves as well…

So that’s where I am at with the guest room plans.  Hope you enjoyed my brain dump!
